Our History

Founded in 1989, Targray is a rapidly growing supplier of materials to the Solar
and Optical Media industries. 

Targray’s business model is based on selecting high growth manufacturing industries, and providing critical raw materials, consumables, and equipment to manufacturers in those industries. 

With a revenue growth of more than 45% per year since 2001 (and 30% since inception in 1989), Targray is now ranked as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies - with global operations in over 50 countries & across 3 continents.

1980’s
1987
Targray is founded in 1987 by Thomas A. Richardson working out of his home in Beaconsfield, Quebec. The company is initially called Technology Services.

1989
Targray Technology International Inc. (TTI) legally incorporates in the summer of 1989. Targray's first recorded sales are clean-room gloves sold to Americ Disc in Drummondville, QC.
1990’s
Targray Warehouse

1990
Targray moves from 97 Beaconsfield Blvd, Beaconsfield to 204 Brunswick Blvd, Pointe Claire. Our growing list of optical media sales now includes glass mastering services and CD jewel box sales.

1994
Targray moves from 204 Brunswick Blvd., Pointe Claire to 210 Brunswick, Pointe Claire.

1995
Targray starts production of targets and soon offers a complete line of Sputtering Targets for all optical media formats, in the most common materials, for virtually all metalizers in use today. Within five years, approximately one out of every 2 discs worldwide is sputtered with a Targray target.

1997
Targray enters into an agreement with Dow Chemical for polycarbonate sales. Dow Chemical becomes a key partner in Targray’s Optical Media growth.

1998
Our 1st office in Europe (TBV) opens in Dordrecht, Netherlands.
Targray moves from 210 Brunswick Blvd to much larger facilities at 195 Labrosse Ave in Pointe Claire – to accommodate larger inventories and more employees.

1999
A new sales office (TAS) opens in Hong Kong.
A new sales office (TUS) opens in Laguna Nigel, California.

2000’s
Targray Conference

2000
A new sales office opens in Taipei, Taiwan.

2001
A new sales office (TCR) opens in Panenske Brezany, Czech Republic.

2004
A new sales office (TIL) opens in New Delhi, India.
Targray marks its entry into the Recycling industry in January.

2005
Targray marks its entry into the Solar industry.
A new sales office opens in Hempstead, England

2006
New sales offices open in the following locations: Wroclaw, Poland; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Wilhelmsfed, Germany.

Targray is proud to announce its inclusion in the 18th edition of the Profit 100.  The Profit 100 lists the 100 fastest growing companies in Canada over the last 5 years.  Targray has been included in this group thanks to a 642% growth rate over the period of 2000-2005.

2007
New sales offices open in the following locations: Shenzhen, China (TCH), Nara, Japan, Milan, Italy and Kunpo City, Korea.
Andrew Richardson is named President in November of 2007 while Thomas Richardson becomes Chairman.

2008
A new sales office is opened in Shanghai, China.
Solar sales exceed OM sales for the first time.
Targray’s sustained growth over the last 20 years has brought the organization to new heights allowing its Head Office to move to larger premises located on the Trans Canada Highway (18105 Trans Canada).  To accommodate its growing workforce, the new location provides a significantly upgraded office environment. A 100 person auditorium, an on-site serviced cafeteria, and a fully equipped gym are only some of the new facility’s highlights.

2009
Launched new web site
June 2nd - Targray Ranks among Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies in PROFIT Magazine’s PROFIT 100.
July 2009 - Targray Ranks among the 'Top 20' in Quebec's L'Actualité Magazine
